What style of Board do I want?

Freestyle

Anywhere from spending the whole day hiking the pipe to making the whole mountain your own personal playground, freestyle boards are right for you.  From totally symmetrical “True Twins” with centered side-cut and centered stances to more all-mountain “Directional Twins” that offer versatility for riding the whole mountain.

Freeride

This is probably the most versatile board style. Lets just say your typical day consists of getting off the gondola, carving a few great turns, hitting that burm on the side of the trail, carving a few more turns, letting it run for a while, then ripping that great big left hand turn into the park. Maybe you hang around at the top of the park and check things out for a minute, then off you go to tear it up through the park to only stop at the bottom AFTER ripping a heel side turn in front everyone waiting in line at the gondola.

Carving or Race

We can special order you whatever you want, but we’re not going to lie to you.  This is not what NOTB is about.  Hey, different strokes and all, but if stiff uncomfortable boots and rigid immobility are the elixir you seek, you’re in the wrong shop.

“What Type of Board do I Want”

True Twin

For the rider who spends as much time riding regular as switch, True twins are 100% symmetrical boards that are best suited to freestyle riders.  Jib/Rails, Pipe, Hits or making the mountain your park.

Advantages:  A centered stance on a true twin gives you the ultimate in spin-ability and the best ride switch.

Disadvantages:  Not as easy to learn to ride on and without the extra nose true twins can be tough in pow.

Directional Twin

For the rider who spends as much time out of the park as in it, the most versatile boards are also the toughest to classify.  Directional twins all allow for a centered stance (see spin-ability and riding switch), but can have a symmetrical or asymmetrical shape.  Set your stance back and you’ve got a great all mountain board.  Center yourself on the board and you’ll feel the love in the park.

Advancing riders that haven’t defined themselves yet as freestyle or freeride should start here.

Advantages:  Changing your stance turns your board from Freestyle to Freeride for the ultimate in versatility.

Disadvantages:  Versatility usually comes at the expense of perfection.  A true twin WILL be your best ride in the park.  A board built for speed WILL be the best choice for freeride.  A nice long powder board WILL be best for that Heli Trip you’ve been dreaming about.  THE SOLUTION… get three boards and make us both happy!

Directional

If your ride through the park is only to humor your buddies but you avoid the rails and boxes because you don’t want to dull your edges a pure directional board may be right for you.  Set back stances and sidecuts work best if you’re going in one direction most of the time.  Can you ride switch?  Sure, just not as easily.  Can you hit the park?  Not as good a feel on a rail, a little harder to get around in a spin and not the most butter-able choice, but still nirvana compared to some of the boards we rode a few short years ago.
