"Rider Run - Rider Driven"
When we started out in a little nook of Ski Haus (the best ski shop in the free
world). It was the late 80’s and snowboarders were fighting for the right to ride the lifts.
N.O.T.B. stood for “North of the Boarder”. You know, like
 South of the Border in South Carolina without the fireworks. And border spelled boarder. Cute, huh? We love those guys ‘cause they saw the potential of snowboarding, gave us some space and set us free to build our own identity. And ‘cause they never quite understood us, they left us the heck alone.
We say “Rider Run – Rider Driven” because that’s the way it is here. There are no skiers here telling us what to stock. Nobody makes us sell what we don’t believe in. We are snowboarders, we are skateboarders, we are wake boarders, or we are some combination or all of the three. When we say
“If you don’t ride, you don’t work here” we’re not trying to offend anybody… you don’t have to ride to shop here. But would you want to take investment advice from a bag lady? Get fashion advice from my Aunt Mildred? Talk car audio with a deaf guy?
Would you ask a car mechanic what to do about that rash you’ve been sporting?
You should never have to see the guy who helped you pick out your new ride in the lift line standing on skis, sporting a spandex GS suit. You’ve got to be fanatical about snowboarding to work here. When the snows on the hill, laundry can wait, the landlord can wait… even the girl friend can wait. We’re living the life here. Riding the reps demo’s, trying on every boot we sell and checking out the new outerwear so we can legitimately tell you what’s dope…and what’s nope.
So, no offence to our friends downstairs, but we’re changing our name.
N.O.T.B. now stands for Not On Two Boards - That pretty much says it, doesn’t it?
